Booking Hangout Laundry for your event

What fits, what doesn't, and what to expect

3 min read

We get enquiries that run the full range. Someone wants to host a birthday party for 40 people. Someone else wants to film a short. A mum's group wants a weekday morning catch-up. A brand wants to shoot product photos. A community organiser wants space for a resident gathering.

Some of these work brilliantly. Some don't. This post is the honest version of what we tell people before they book so you can figure out if we're the right fit before anyone wastes time on a back-and-forth.

What kind of space is this, exactly?

Hangout Laundry is a real, working laundromat at Bedok North Street 3. It's air-conditioned, open 24/7, and designed from the start to be more than somewhere you wait for your clothes to dry. There's a coffee machine, bar seating along floor-to-ceiling glass windows, a communal wooden table that seats six, and Wi-Fi throughout.

When you book it for an exclusive hire, the laundromat is yours. The machines stay — that's part of the aesthetic, not an inconvenience. What you're booking is a private, air-conditioned neighbourhood space in the east that looks and feels different from every function room and bare studio in Singapore.

It fits up to 30 people comfortably. Standing receptions work. Seated workshops work. Intimate celebrations work. A cocktail party for 50 does not.

What works well here

We've hosted mindfulness workshops, craft markets, community storytelling, Halloween parties, and product shoots. The things these have in common: they're intimate, they don't need a stage, and the people who come are there for the atmosphere as much as the activity.

Specifically, the space works well for:

  • Private birthday gatherings and celebrations (up to around 25–30 pax)

  • Workshops and classes. Literary salons, craft, floristry, anything that works in a relaxed, non-corporate setting

  • Content creation and product lifestyle shoots. The machines, the glass windows, and the coffee corner photograph well

  • Community events and RC programmes. We're in the heartlands, we're affordable, and we're genuinely set up for neighbourhood use

  • Team catch-ups and small offsites that don't need a boardroom feel

  • Pop-up markets with a small number of vendors

What doesn't work here

Being honest about this saves everyone time.

If you need a projector, a screen, or a stage, we don't have those. If you're expecting 40 or more people, we'll be over capacity and it won't be comfortable. If you need a commercial kitchen or catering facilities, we don't have those either. If you're planning something that needs heavy soundproofing e.g. a live band, anything very loud late at night — we're in an HDB estate and that's not something we can accommodate.

If your event needs a blank, neutral space you can transform completely, there are better options. The laundromat aesthetic is the point. If it's not your point, it may work against you.

What the booking process looks like

You can book directly via the widget on our venue hire page, or drop us a message if you want to talk through your event first especially if it's something a bit different or you want to check whether the space is right before committing.

We're happy to arrange a walkthrough. There's no obligation and it takes 15 minutes. Most people who visit in person book on the spot or shortly after. Seeing it is usually more persuasive than anything we can write here.

One last thing

We've been featured in CNA, Business Insider, and The Honeycombers as a laundromat that does things differently. The event space side of what we do is an extension of the same idea: a neighbourhood space that's a bit more comfortable, a bit more considered, and a bit less generic than the alternative.

If that sounds like what you're looking for, get in touch or book directly here.
